Shooting in Exumas, Bahamas

The Exumas are our number-one choice for yacht photography and video in the Bahamas. Clear turquoise water surrounds much of the island chain, giving us exceptional backgrounds for yacht running shots, aerial imagery, tenders, water toys and complete charter-lifestyle productions. Depending on the yacht’s itinerary, we typically travel from Fort Lauderdale Executive Airport using a smaller regional or charter carrier. Arrival may be coordinated through Staniel Cay, George Town or another suitable Exumas airstrip, followed by a local transfer or direct rendezvous with the yacht near Highbourne Cay, Compass Cay or the selected anchorage. The Black Point area is one of our favorite production locations. Its low island scenery, surrounding shallows and extensive turquoise water create a distinctly Bahamian setting without the heavier development found around Nassau. Nearby cays and anchorages provide additional options for running shots, beach scenes and guest activities. The final route depends on the yacht’s draft, weather, tides, flight arrangements and desired activities. The Exumas reward careful planning: a properly organized multi-day itinerary can produce a complete collection of exterior, interior, aerial and lifestyle imagery across several visually distinct locations.

Best for

  • Luxury charter marketing
  • Turquoise-water yacht photography
  • Aerial and running-shot imagery
  • Sandbar and island lifestyle content
  • Water toys and guest experiences
  • Multi-day yacht productions

Advantages

  • Exceptional turquoise water

Shallow banks, sandbars and changing depths create the layered turquoise and blue water for which the Exumas are known. With suitable sunlight and weather, the surroundings give yacht imagery an unmistakably Bahamian character.

  • Black Point is a preferred shooting area

Black Point and the surrounding cays provide low island scenery, quieter backgrounds and extensive turquoise water. The area works particularly well for running shots, aerials and relaxed charter-lifestyle imagery.

  • Numerous anchorages and sandbars

The Exumas offer a broad selection of bays, sandbars and protected anchorages. This gives the production team alternative backgrounds and better opportunities to adapt the route around light, wind and marine conditions.

  • Outstanding aerial perspectives

The contrast between yachts, sandbars, shallow banks and deep-water channels reads exceptionally well from above. Aerial coverage can reveal the scale of the yacht while placing it unmistakably within the Exumas.

  • Complete charter-lifestyle opportunities

Suitable locations can support swimming, tenders, paddleboards, beach setups, dining and water-toy scenes. These activities allow us to present both the yacht and the complete guest experience.

  • Multiple looks within one production

Open water, narrow channels, beaches, sandbars, settlements and secluded anchorages can all be incorporated into one campaign. The resulting collection feels varied without leaving the Exumas cruising ground.

Considerations

  • Arrival logistics depend on the itinerary

The best airport or transfer point depends on where the yacht is positioned. Flights, baggage capacity, equipment handling and local transfers must be coordinated before confirming whether the team will join near Staniel Cay, George Town, Highbourne Cay, Compass Cay or another location.

  • Yacht draft determines location access

Many of the Exumas’ most visually appealing banks and sandbars are shallow. The captain must confirm safe routes, anchoring depths and whether tenders are required before a location is added to the production plan.

  • Weather can change the route

Wind, swell, cloud cover and seasonal weather can affect exposed anchorages, water color and running-shot conditions. Sheltered alternatives should be identified so production can continue safely if the preferred location becomes unsuitable.

  • Location changes consume production time

The Exumas extend across a long island chain. Even when locations appear close on a map, cruising, anchoring and equipment preparation reduce available shooting time. The itinerary should prioritize quality rather than attempting to cover too many cays.

  • Drone operations require advance authorization

Commercial drone operations in the Bahamas require written authorization. Proposed islands, coordinates, dates, flight heights, insurance and equipment information should be submitted before the production itinerary is finalized.

  • Remote locations require preparation

Equipment, batteries, media storage, provisions and backup plans must be organized before leaving the main arrival point. Replacement equipment and production support may not be readily available in remote parts of the Exumas.

  • Protected locations require careful planning

Marine parks and environmentally sensitive areas may restrict anchoring, drones, commercial activity or access. The captain and production team should confirm the requirements for every proposed location before arrival.

Our recommendation

Choose the Exumas when the production’s priority is exceptional turquoise water, secluded anchorages and a complete luxury charter experience. This is our preferred Bahamas location for campaigns involving aerials, running shots, models, tenders, water toys and island-lifestyle imagery. The Black Point area is one of our favorite starting points because it provides extensive turquoise water, attractive low-island scenery and access to several nearby shooting environments. Staniel Cay, Compass Cay, Highbourne Cay, George Town and other locations may also support the production depending on the yacht’s itinerary. We recommend coordinating flights and boarding arrangements before finalizing the route, followed by at least two full production days. A longer schedule provides more flexibility for weather, location changes, interior coverage and guest activities. Share the yacht’s draft and proposed itinerary with us so we can identify the strongest combination of anchorages, running-shot routes and aerial locations.

Questions

Shooting in Exumas, Bahamas, answered

Are the Exumas the best Bahamas location for yacht photography?

For complete charter-lifestyle campaigns, the Exumas are our preferred Bahamas location. Turquoise water, sandbars, secluded anchorages and varied cays provide exceptional settings for aerials, running shots and guest-experience imagery.

Where do you normally shoot in the Exumas?

Black Point is one of our favorite areas, but the route may also include Staniel Cay, Compass Cay, Highbourne Cay, George Town and surrounding anchorages. The final locations depend on the yacht’s itinerary, draft and weather.

How does the production team reach the Exumas?

We commonly travel from Fort Lauderdale Executive Airport using a regional or charter carrier. The arrival point and any local transfer are selected according to the yacht’s position and the planned production route.

How many days should we plan for an Exumas yacht production?

We recommend arrival and boarding time followed by at least two full production days. Additional time provides more flexibility for weather, multiple anchorages, water toys, interiors and complete charter-lifestyle coverage.

Can you fly a drone for yacht photography in the Exumas?

Commercial drone work is possible only with the required written authorization. The application must identify the proposed islands, coordinates, dates, equipment and operating areas, so aerial planning should begin in advance.

Can water toys and beach scenes be included?

Yes, when local requirements, yacht policies, weather and the selected anchorage permit them. The Exumas are particularly well suited to tenders, paddleboards, swimming, beach setups and other charter-lifestyle activities.

Does yacht draft affect an Exumas production?

Yes. Many sandbars and turquoise banks are shallow, and not every yacht can safely reach every location. We coordinate with the captain to determine safe routes and where tenders may be needed.
