Shooting in St. Barts

St. Barts is one of our favorite Caribbean destinations for yacht photography and video. Gustavia, the island’s anchorages, clear water, distinctive coastline and luxury hospitality provide a strong setting for charter marketing, lifestyle imagery and destination-led marine campaigns. Reaching St. Barts generally consumes a full travel day. Depending on flight, ground and tender arrangements, we may not board the yacht until the evening. We therefore require a minimum schedule of three days and two nights rather than treating the destination as a short one-day production. Whenever possible, we prefer to stay aboard the yacht. This improves access to early-morning and evening light, reduces daily transfers and allows the production plan to respond more efficiently to weather, yacht movements and available anchorages. Drone production requires particularly careful planning. Gustaf III Airport and its low approach and departure paths affect several popular coastal and anchoring areas, especially around Saint-Jean. A yacht may be anchored in an attractive location that cannot support the required aerial operation, so proposed anchorages and drone-dependent shots must be reviewed before the itinerary is finalized.

Best for

  • Luxury charter marketing
  • Onboard lifestyle photography
  • Destination-led yacht campaigns
  • Gustavia harbor imagery
  • Offshore running shots
  • Multi-day yacht productions

Advantages

  • Exceptional charter-marketing setting

St. Barts combines Caribbean water, distinctive coastline, refined hospitality and a globally recognized luxury identity. It provides an authentic setting for campaigns designed to communicate the complete charter experience rather than only documenting the yacht.

  • Strong concentration of luxury yachts

Gustavia attracts a significant concentration of charter yachts, owners, brokers and marine professionals during the winter season. When the yacht is already operating nearby, St. Barts can be an effective location for coordinated photography, video and social-media content.

  • Varied lifestyle environments

The island supports a broad range of imagery, including harbor arrivals, onboard dining, beach scenes, tenders, guest activities, hospitality content and sunset lifestyle photography. The final selection depends on access, weather and the yacht’s itinerary.

  • Excellent natural light and coastal scenery

St. Barts offers elevated coastlines, sheltered bays, open-water horizons and strong early-morning and evening light. These elements can give a yacht campaign greater atmosphere and destination value than a marina-focused production.

  • Staying aboard improves production access

When the production team can stay aboard, we can respond more efficiently to changing light, weather and yacht movements. It also improves access to sunrise, sunset and spontaneous lifestyle moments without losing time to daily shoreside transfers.

  • Regional offshore possibilities

On suitable days, offshore routes can provide clean horizons and dramatic running-shot opportunities. A longer passage toward Saba may be considered when weather, sea conditions, fuel, timing and the yacht’s itinerary make it practical.

Considerations

  • A full travel day is required

Travel from Miami can consume most of the day once flights, connections, ground transportation, equipment handling and tender access are included. The production team may not board the yacht until the evening, so the arrival day.should not be treated as a full shooting day.

  • Minimum three-day, two-night schedule

We require a minimum of three days and two nights for a St. Barts production. This provides an arrival and preparation window, a meaningful production day and sufficient time for departure. Additional time is recommended for a complete charter-lifestyle campaign.

  • Staying aboard is strongly preferred

Onboard accommodation reduces daily transfer time and gives the production greater flexibility around light, weather and yacht movements. If the team cannot stay aboard, local accommodation, tenders and transportation must be arranged in advance.

  • Airport airspace limits drone coverage

Gustaf III Airport and its low aircraft approach and departure paths affect several visually desirable coastal areas. Some anchorages may be unsuitable for drone photography even when they work well for photography from the yacht or production boat.

  • Aerial coverage cannot be guaranteed

Professional drone operations require advance regulatory and location review. Permission, aircraft activity, temporary restrictions and the yacht’s exact position can affect whether a proposed flight is possible, so every production should include non-aerial alternatives.

  • Popular anchorages require advance coordination

An attractive anchorage may also have vessel traffic, aircraft activity, difficult tender access or limited room for water toys. Contact us before the yacht finalizes its position so the location can be evaluated against the intended shot list.

  • Offshore routes depend on conditions

Running shots near St. Barts or on a longer route toward Saba depend on wind, waves, current, visibility and available production time. Saba is a substantial offshore passage and should only be included when the conditions and yacht itinerary support it.

Our recommendation

Choose St. Barts when the goal is a premium charter-marketing or luxury lifestyle campaign and the yacht is already operating in the region. The island offers excellent scenery, recognizable destination value and a wide range of onboard and shoreside storytelling opportunities. Plan a minimum of three days and two nights, with the production team staying aboard whenever possible. Confirm the yacht’s proposed anchorages and drone-dependent shot list with us before finalizing the itinerary. If aerial coverage is essential, the production should include alternative locations and non-drone shot options in case airport activity or regulatory restrictions prevent the planned flights.

Questions

Shooting in St. Barts, answered

Is St. Barts a good location for yacht photography?

Yes. St. Barts is one of our preferred Caribbean locations for luxury charter marketing, onboard lifestyle content and destination-led yacht campaigns. Its coastline, clear water, harbor activity and hospitality settings provide a strong visual identity.

How many days should we plan for a yacht shoot in St. Barts?

We require a minimum of three days and two nights. Travel normally consumes most of the arrival day, so this schedule provides time to board, prepare and complete at least one meaningful production day. Additional time is preferable for a complete lifestyle campaign.

Should the production team stay aboard the yacht?

Yes, whenever accommodation is available. Staying aboard reduces transfer time and allows the team to respond more efficiently to sunrise, sunset, changing weather, yacht movements and spontaneous lifestyle opportunities.

Can you fly a drone for yacht photography in St. Barts?

Drone operations are possible only in suitable locations and with the required advance coordination. Gustaf III Airport, aircraft flight paths, populated areas and other restrictions can prevent aerial filming at some popular anchorages, so coverage cannot be guaranteed before review.

Can a yacht anchor near the airport for aerial photography?

Some yachts anchor near areas affected by the airport’s approach and departure paths. These locations may work for photography from the yacht or a production boat but be unsuitable for drone operations. The exact anchorage must be reviewed before confirming an aerial shot list.

Where are yacht running shots filmed in St. Barts?

Running shots can be planned around St. Barts or farther offshore when weather, sea conditions, yacht traffic and aerial restrictions permit. Clean backgrounds may require additional travel away from the island’s busiest anchorages.

Can we include Saba in a St. Barts yacht production?

A longer offshore route toward Saba may provide dramatic scenery and running-shot opportunities on a suitable day. Because it is a substantial passage, it must be planned around weather, sea conditions, fuel, production time and the yacht’s wider itinerary.
